Quantum Theory of Longitudinal-Transverse Polaritons in Nonlocal Thin Films

چکیده

When midinfrared light interacts with nanoscale polar dielectric structures, optical phonon propagation cannot be ignored, leading to a rich nonlocal phenomenology that we have only recently started uncover. In properly crafted nanodevices this includes the creation of polaritonic excitations hybrid longitudinal-transverse nature, which are predicted allow energy funneling from longitudinal electrical currents far-field transverse radiation. work study physics these polaritons in nanolayer nonlocality strongly couples epsilon-near-zero modes phonons. After having calculated system's spectrum solving Maxwell's equations, develop an analytical theory able transparently quantify nonlocality-mediated coupling as function system parameters. Such provides powerful tool for polariton interactions and use it determine conditions required appear.
